The secret to growing your business, without social media.
Are you frustrated by social media sucking your time and energy dry, to market your business, but keep on creating content anyway, because you think social media is a complete marketing plan?
If you’re like many of my clients before they started working with me, you put all your marketing eggs into the social media basket too.
You spend hours every week, planning and creating content for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or TikTok and hope and pray that all your hard work and energy will pay off.
Every time you get a like or follow you get that dopamine hit and think “It’s working, I’ll do more”. But then, inevitably, you still don’t get new leads queuing up to chat in your DMs, let alone a long thread of comments on your posts.
Deflated, you question why you’re doing social media in the first place. But then, because you think social media is marketing, you carry on and create your next post.
The good news?
Social media isn’t the only marketing route available to help you grow your business. Some marketing strategies don’t require you to be on social media at all to generate leads.
Whaaattt! No social media? 😱
Yep.
Because, you see, social media is only one piece of the marketing jigsaw.
I know, right?
Don’t get me wrong, having an active social presence is still important for many businesses.
But relying solely on platforms like Facebook groups, LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok means you’re missing out on so many other marketing opportunities.
With the right marketing tactics in place, you could grow your business with other forms of marketing.
That’s why, in this blog, I’ll be sharing 15 other marketing tactics you could be using for generating leads so you can get your energy and time back for the work you enjoy.
And I’ll share the reason why social media is not the holy grail of marketing.
People don’t use social media like they used to
The truth is that social media has become an increasingly challenging place to get real traction and engagement from your audience.
People’s habits have shifted, especially since the pandemic.
As a nation, we’re more likely to be mindless scrollers rather than actively engaging with business content like we used to.
And, most importantly, your ideal clients may not even be using social media to search for services or products like yours.
Instead, you need to think about where your ideal clients actually spend their time.
Do marketing where your clients already hang out
Just because it looks like everyone, and their lockdown dog is, on social media doesn’t mean that everyone is.
And even if they are, they’re probably not constantly looking for your service or product. They might be on socials for completely unrelated reasons to your business.
So ask yourself “Are my ideal clients really on social media looking out for services and products like mine?”.
If not, consider whether the following 15 methods could more effectively reach your ideal clients.
Marketing techniques that reach your clients where they are.
Do they hang out more on the high street at their local cafe, gym, or local shops?
Perhaps they’re at networking events.
Do they spend time online turning to google when they are looking for a business to buy from? If so SEO, Google my business and Google ads would be worth investigating.
Or do they listen to podcasts, attend expos and workshops, listen to the radio.
Are they avid traditional newspaper readers.
Is email their best friend!?
Think about direct mail, local print advertising, and partnering with local non-profits or schools.
Don’t underestimate the value of direct mail, radio/TV commercials, and good ol’ fashioned word-of-mouth marketing.
Pop up events.
Even traditional doorstep flyering.
And if they are online, who do they follow? What groups or communities are they in?
An effective method for building your audience is by getting in front of them through other people’s audiences.
Think guest blogging, guest podcasting, presenting at online summit events, and collaborating with adjacent service providers or product businesses.
Then there’s speaking on stage at in-person events or offering free workshops in the right communities.
You get the picture.
The most effective marketing meets your audience where they already are, not where you hope they’ll be.
