Time and (head)space…
2 giant subjects – but we won’t get into the physics, for the sake of both your time and (head)space, we’ll keep it simple.
Do you ever get that awful feeling that you simply don’t have enough time? Not enough hours in the day to do what you have to do, let alone what you want to do.
It’s crushing sometimes, isn’t it? You wonder how other people seem to manage so easily, how do they run a business as well as make time for family, friends, pets, plants!?
I’ll let you in on a ‘not so secret’ secret. Either they’re faking it (the making it look easy part), they have a support team, or they’re into this little thing called mindset.
Ok, to be fair that’s a vague statement – mindset is an umbrella term now for a vast array of things – some practical and some beautifully bonkers. But whatever floats your boat, right?
I want to talk specifically about headspace. The space you allow for thoughts, ideas, concepts, reflection, creativity, inspiration… the space you allow your overworked grey matter to play!
So, when you’re feeling all in a tizz, no time, no mental capacity – what do you do? Do you just get your head down and get on with it – ploughing through tasks without taking a moment to breathe? Or do you sit back and plan (and by plan I mean procrastinate by writing lists!) Or do you get so overwhelmed you freeze and hide, hoping it’ll all go away (with the knowledge looming that stuff will still be there for you to have to handle tomorrow).
It’s often not time we’re lacking. More often, it’s headspace.
Put it this way, things are way more difficult when you’re distracted, correct? When you can’t quite get in the zone because you know after this thing, there’s another thing, and after that, well, you get the idea.
There’s a constant shove forwards, do this, what’s next, do, do, do. It’s no wonder so many of us are exhausted.
How would that change if you allowed yourself some time to process and reflect? If you gave yourself the gift of some headspace each day, don’t you think you’d feel less overwhelmed and better equipped to handle what’s thrown at you?
We’re humans after all – we’ve got a fabulous ability to review the past and get an idea on how that will influence our future… and that’s really simplifying it. But it’s true.
So what if you allow yourself the time to reflect and let your mind wander around and navigate all the stuff you’re trying to process? I tell you what will happen, you’ll start to make better decisions.
You’ll be able to see a clearer picture of what’s in front of you by looking at what’s gone before. You can analyse, fantasise, and realise that it isn’t always about time. It’s often about headspace.
Looking backwards in order to look forwards. And allowing yourself the opportunity to actually let your mind do the heavy lifting.
Take a mental step back before you set out to plan your next moves. Allow yourself the headspace to let reflection inform and inspire you.
